Stem Cells So far! Stem Cell Therapy Facts and Principles
author
Abstract:
Stem cells are cells with the ability to divide for indefinite periods and to give rise to specialized cells. Stem cell therapy has now been emerged as an extraordinary promise to treat a wide range of diseases and conditions. However, except blood stem cell transfer by bone marrow transplant which has been used as an standard practice for more than 50 years, nearly all of therapeutic potentials of stem cell are in early stages and experimental. A lot of work still is needed to turn this research into safe and effective treatments. In addition, as stem cell research becomes closer to new medical practices, new ethical questions must be resolved by researchers. Here a short discussion has been provided on some of these stem cell hypes and worries. Keyword: Cell therapy, Stem Cell.

This opinion paper is a brief overview of the current state of the translation of stem cell therapy from the bench to the clinic. The hype generated by the great medical potential of stem cells has lead to hundreds of clinics worldwide claiming to have the cure for every imaginable condition. This fraudulent practice is far from the reality of scientists and bona fide companies. Much effort is ...
full textFacts about Stem Cells and Importance of Them
Stem cells are undifferentiated biological cells that can differentiate into specialized cells and can divide (through mitosis) to produce more stem cells. They are found in multicellular organisms. In mammals, there are two broad types of stem cells: embryonic stem cells, which are isolated from the inner cell mass of blastocysts, and adult stem cells, which are found in various tissues. In ad...
full textStrategies to Improve Homing of Stem Cells to achieve better Efficacy in Stem Cell Therapy
Stem/progenitor cell based therapeutic approach in our daily routine clinical practice, has been elusive dream in medical sciences and improvement of stem cell homing as one of major challenges in cell therapy programs, has been considered a promising milestone. It has been proved that stem/progenitor cells exhibit a homing response to injured tissues/organs, mediated by interactions of chemoki...
full textP137: Stem Cell Therapy in Alzheimer’s Disease
Alzheimer disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative brain disorder which plays an important role in neural cell destruction and as a result it causes memory loss in the patients. This disease is also the most common type of dementia which doesn’t completely respond to medical treatments so no certain cure is available. Recent studies show the advantages of using stem cells (SCs) in ...
full textStem Cell Therapy: the ethical issues
The ability to culture human stem cells long term, and possibly indefinitely, and to control how such cells specialise to form the different tissues of the body offers the possibility of major advances in healthcare. Stem cells have been isolated and cultured, but a great deal of research is required to develop cell lines which can generate replacement cells and tissues to treat many diseases.S...
